I regularly dine here with friends and large groups. Firstly the food is absolutely gorgeous, makes Chinese takeaways pointless at this price and with this quality why go to a takeaway!?

The service is great and the establishment is well run by Julie and the other male manager.

Once or twice I have seen some unsavoury characters eating here, who seem a bit drunk maybe trying to take advantage of the all you can eat format.

It's a first class place I'm going tonight!

Absolutely disgusting customer service. The owner of the establishment is one of the most vile and abhorrent men I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.

I was with Robinson Tuck and he has detailed our experience very throughly so I shan't detail the encounter again. After my order was wrong, I returned to the restaurant and politely explained the issue. The manager owner was initially rude, and then aggressive. Threats of violence were made, something I was shocked to see other reviewers have also experienced. As much as I wanted to leave the place and never come back I declined his offer of "taking it outside".

In the end I was asked to leave, he  cited his other customers as the reason for this. I was quite surprised he had suddenly decided to care about his customers and their experience.

My fortune cookie said that all my future plans would succeed - this order did not.

I have never written a review before but I feel compelled to write about my experiences in the China Palace. On reading most of the other reviews on Trip advisor it appears I am not alone and even some of the positive reviews have negative comments about the manager. If you could give this a  minus 10 I would.

Living locally I have frequented the China Palace many time over the years and there are many stories about the arrogant and rude nature of the manager that circulate though the village but we used to enjoy our visits. However, this is the second time I have had a run in with the manager and both time it is when large parties of people are involved. The guy is clearly stressed or has issues but this is no excuse for his damn right rude attitude.

The 1st time I was in a party of 12, we had booked a Christmas party and looking forward to our meal. We arrived to be treated with contempt (how dare 12 of you turn up and expect to dine) and waited 20 mins for a drink and to be seated then another 20 mins waiting for the menu's. no one could buy a drink at the bar and not have it included in the bill (maybe the manager cannot add up) By this point we walked out, when we were asked why we stated the downright rudeness and lack of customer care. We were then  met with abuse from the manager, we responded to it and left. We then boycotted the establishment for 12 months. Upon returning we were treated ok (ish) and things went back to normal.

The big issue is what happened at the beginning of August. For my Wife's birthday we decided spontaneously  to have a mid-week family gets together (12 adults and 3 babies) and go the China palace, admittedly we didn't book, but hey no problem if they could not fit us in. Instantly the manager was aggressive demanding why we had not booked like he was doing me a favour. We explained that if they could not fit us in that its fine and we would try the Indian restaurant down the road. He reluctantly agreed and told us to wait 15 mins. So I stood outside to get some air and other people in our party tried ordering drinks at the bar. But once again he would not accept payment unless it was in one bill and became aggressive There was an exchange of calm words resulted him slamming down money on the bar. My Daughter commented to him that that was not very could customer service and he responded to her " don't talk to me about customer service F*** you and customer service. Gobsmacked by daughter's boyfriend said you cannot talk to my girlfriend like that. I then told him he was been an idiot in no so kinder terms and to calm down. My other Daughters partner then asked him what the problem was to which the response was "F*** you. Then in a flash the manager grabbed him (bearing in mind my daughter's boyfriend is 6ft+) and it all went nutty. The kitchen staff came out of the kitchen with knives and stood in a line,  It was like a scene Jackie Chan movie. We called the police ( as did some people in the restaurant) who attended 10 mins later spoke to ourselves and to the manager, the police noted that he was shirty with them as well.  All of this and there were babies with us as well. The manager is unhinged and the top and bottom of this is that the guy should not be in the hospitality trade. I WILL NEVER return to that place again.  On leaving the premises one of the waitresses apologised for the managers behaviour saying he has had a bad day. Well I hope he has a bad decade and no one frequents that place again. Please do read the other reviews as it seems we are not the only people to have a run in with him.
